Description

One bar of Wolfram Special Steel 3 x 100 x 600mm. An excellent high tungsten-alloyed carbon steel. Made in Sheffield in England, this exciting alloy follows the region’s rich history of steel and cutlery making that goes back centruries. Designed for knife and edged tool makers, it has exceptional wear resistance and great toughness at high Rockwell hardnesses (HRC). With a recommended working Rockwell hardness of 64HRC, Wolfram Special Steel ideal for kitchen knives, razors and woodworking tools.

Comes annealed (soft) and ready to work with hand tools.

Alloy Composition

Carbon (C) 1.13% | Tungsten (W) 2.23% | Manganese (Mn) 0.24% | Chromium (Cr) 0.42% | Silicon (Si) 0.2% | Phosphorus (P) 0.012% | Sulfur (S) 0.016%

Recommended Heat Treatment

• Heat to 815°C and hold for five minutes
• Quench in medium speed oil such as Houghton’s G Medium Quench Oil
• “As quenched” hardness will be approximately 66HRC
• Temper twice at 200°C for two hours for final working hardness of approximately 64HRC
