Description
Kalderum Blades Feather Damascus Steel Bar *K004. Made from Böhler K720 (1.2842 (equiv to O2), manganese-containing, dark) and 75ni8 steel (nickel-containing, light), which has been straightened, fine-grained, normalized and soft-annealed, as well as chemically descaled.
Dimensions are approx. 250 x 50 mm and 5.3mm thick. (dimensions are slightly smaller than the actual pieces, as 1-2 mm of the edge area is unusable)
This is a unique one-off piece of steel made by Kalderum Blades from Austria.
In the production of feather damascus steel, a billet of damascus steel is split and then forge-welded back together along the split surface. A blunt chisel is used for splitting, which causes the layers to be “pulled along,” resulting in the characteristic feather pattern.
Heat treatment instructions:
Heat steel at 830ºC for 10 minutes then Oil quench. Tempter at 170-200ºC for two hours, twice.
These instructions are also supplied with the steel bar.
